The snow, the cold, the endless conversations of love have all been floating around this February. Maybe some of those winter blues are in high gear, we’ve overindulged clearance Valentine’s Day candy, or we’ve lost the motivation from those ambitious New Year’s Resolutions. It is so easy to lose sight of ourselves and those goals as we go through the brutal heart of midwestern winters. It is easy to use small motivators to get us up and moving, but sometimes they’re few and far in between. So instead of using February as “Love yourself” as so many do, I want to focus instead on reminding ourselves to just do what we LOVE.
Many times when I asked mamas what they do to relax or destress exercise is close to the top of that list. I even share the example that my husband and I are clear with each other - we are better people when we’ve gotten a workout in. To quote the fabulous Elle Woods, “Exercise releases endorphins and endorphins make you happy…” I personally love the rush after a workout. I like to get my workout in first thing in the morning so it sets a positive tone for the whole day. I love the energy and the sweat from feeling my body work and get stronger. So when I think about what I love, it’s the power I feel during a workout and the endorphin rush to follow.
A good HIIT workout (Hello Body Boost / Body Well) or a solid run (I see you Run Club+) are my go to personal power plays. When motivation is low, I have to remind myself how much I love these things. Taking those first steps out of the door are tough, but the aftermath makes it all worth it. If anyone is with me, we’re in luck because a Body Well flash sale is coming soon! Take advantage of that - commit yourself to something you love.
