Taking Care of Mama

May is always the Month of Mama! Personally I think there should be a Mother’s Day once a month. We ALL deserve it. I hope you enjoyed Mother’s Day and you were able to partake in one of the many events FIT4MOM DuPage County set up to celebrate YOU. Don’t let that feeling of love, appreciation and gratitude leave you. Being a mother is hard work and we deserve more frequent moments to celebrate US.

In one of my morning scrolling moments, I see the words I’ve seen so many times before, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” This morning those words resonated more strongly than before. It is painfully true that, as the amazing mothers we are, we run ourselves down to empty almost every day. That’s why we’re superheroes - we never give up and somehow always make it work. I did a quick self assessment and realized my cup is very empty, which makes me question if that’s reflected in what my kids see. I need to take care of ME.

I’m dedicating myself to drawing a hard line to make time for me to fill my cup. Everything is better when I get my workouts in. I have better focus, which helps me get things done in a more timely fashion and I can enjoy more family time. I have more energy, which means I can keep up with the kids over summer break. I have less stress, which means I’m less likely to binge eat the not so great food choices when I see them. Lucky for me, and anyone in the boat with me (I see you!), that Summer HIIT camp is around the corner. Anyone want an accountability buddy?

Filling your cup is not a one size fits all solution. Every one of us is unique and different things bring us happiness. Take a breath and reflect on what can be the source of happiness for you, to fill your cup and cause a ripple effect across your life. Take care of YOU!
