Meet our October 2024 - Mom of the Month

Congrats to Emily, our October Mom of the Month!

Emily joined Our Village last Spring. She has been a familiar face in both our mom only classes and our stroller friendly classes, AND she just crushed her first Run Club+ session! Congrats, mama! We are so lucky to have you and sweet Lewis in Our Village!

Get to know Emily

Hometown: Lake Zurich, IL

Tell us who is in your family: I have been married to my husband, Alec, for 2 years and we have our son Lewis who is 14 months old! We also have a 9.5 year old boxer mix named Sydney.

Current/Previous Career: I am an audiologist! I work with people of all ages who have hearing loss.

What was your childhood ambition? I always grew up wanting to help others and as cliche as it sounds, change the world.

What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood means getting it done even when it is tough! Being able to take all the good and all the tough, roll it into one and make a magical life out of it!

What is the farthest you have been away from home? I lived in Madrid, Spain for 6 months my junior year of college. It was so tough to go initially, but I absolutely loved it.

How did you find FIT4MOM DuPage County? I found FIT4MOM Dupage County at the Lombard Lilac Parade! Lewis and I had walked a few blocks down and were handed a flyer! I hadn't met a lot of people in Lombard yet as we moved just before having Lewis so I was really excited to combine exercise, including Lewis, and making new mom friends.

How has FIT4MOM DuPage County changed your life? I was struggling with postpartum depression and exercise had historically been a stress relief for me. Being postpartum I didn't know how to get back into exercise nor find the time to do so. I was also struggling with lack of local community as my husband and I didn't know anyone who lived near us. FIT4MOM got me back into exercising as I could bring Lewis with me and not stress about when to workout. I am feeling so much stronger and in a much better place mentally now. I feel like I am a part of a community and look forward to seeing the other moms every week.

Favorite exercise: Running! I am a marathoner at heart and running will always be my go to exercise.

Proudest Moment: Running 5.5 miles while pushing Lewis in a stroller without stopping or walking this past weekend!

What is one thing you have learned so far from this year? Motherhood is so hard! I feel like it is something you can only truly understand once you've lived it. Finding a community of other moms is definitely necessary!

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us!: My son and I share the same exact birthday! He was born at 8:44am on my 30th birthday.
