Meet Our December 2018 - Mom of the Month

Carolyn, our December Mom or the Month, was hooked from her first class and has truly jumped into and embraced Our Village ever since. Carolyn found us when she was pregnant and even rearranged her work schedule when her maternity leave ended so she could keep coming to classes. We are so glad you did! We love having you in our classes and Our Village. Congratulations, Carolyn!

Hometown: I grew up in a small town in central Illinois - Spring Valley. It's near Starved Rock (one of my favorite places to hike.) We now live in Wheaton.

Tell us about who is in your family: My husband, Vito, and our son Giorgio (14 months)

Current/Previous career: I work part-time as a pediatric chiropractor. My specialty is pregnant women and children but I also love helping women understand their fertility to naturally achieve (or postpone) pregnancy with Natural Family Planning.

What was your childhood ambition? I wanted to be a mommy, or a teacher, or a doctor, or an actress...I was a very ambitious child. haha!

What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood is the greatest gift. It sharpens you and brings out the best in you. Being a mom has made me more intentional to be the best version of myself because I know he's always watching. I've never laughed so hard, felt so much joy, or loved so much-It is so rewarding!!

What is the furthest you have been away from home? When I was in chiropractic college, I did a clinic abroad trip in Fiji. It really is the most beautiful place on Earth!

How did you find FIT4MOM? Some of my patients were FIT4MOM members and were telling me I should try the Fit4Baby class. I had just moved to the area and was looking for some prenatal workouts, so I thought I'd give it a try. One class and I was hooked...the rest is history.

How as FIT4MOM changed your life? I personally find it difficult to do many things with a baby who needs my (almost) constant attention. Exercising is one of them. Not only do I get to bring my kid with me to Stroller Strides, but I get to be around other like minded moms. I get a great work out in, give my son something to do, and hang out with other moms-win, win, win!! I also love the ‘Village' and the constant reminder to take care of myself first so that I can take care of my family.

Favorite exercise: I love every form of exercise. Anything that makes me (a good) sore the next day.

Proudest moment: Having a home birth.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I really enjoy working on cars. When I was younger, my dad would have me "help" him change the oil or the brakes or other small repairs on our cars. It was our way of bonding, and I learned a lot of useful information about cars.
