Meet our December 2017 - Mom of the Month

We are excited to introduce Michelle Alvarado as our December Mom of the Month! Michelle has been a member of Our Village for about a year now. She went from being a dedicated Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre mama with her sweet and smiley son Joey to play group captain this summer, where all the kids adore her! You are almost guaranteed to see her in classes most days of the week as she said “she is a FIT4MOMer till the wheels fall off!” She just finished her first session of Body Back where she found great strength and amazing friendships. Michelle is always an uplifting, encouraging mama who we love to see in class. We are so happy you found Our Village, Michelle! Congratulations!

  • Hometown: Joliet, IL
  • Tell us about who is in your family: My husband is Joe, my 18 month old son Joey and 11 year old German shepherd mix dog, Luna
  • Current/Previous Career: I was a preschool teacher for 8 years. I am currently working with the largest vegan parenting network in the world, Raise Vegan as Managing Director. And of course a stay at home mama.
  • What was your childhood ambition? I actually always wanted to be an astronaut first, I love the mystery and magic of space..and then a teacher.
  • What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood means empowerment and pride. The fact that we are given the miracle of creating life is amazing! The tricky part is not losing ourselves in the midst of all the wonderment. In comes FIT4MOM! ️
  • What is the furthest you have been away from home? We have been to Italy twice (honeymoon and to visit my sister in law)
  • How did you find FIT4MOM? Through my sis-in-law who stressed the importance of finding a supportive group of women. I had no idea how important and invaluable it is until now.
  • How has FIT4MOM changed your life? I am not alone! I have found an amazing village where we lift each other up, laugh and cry at our mommy moments and encourage one another through butt kicking workouts. This is truly an emotional and physical support system and every woman should be a part of it.
  • Favorite exercise: Oh man...how can I pick just one? I guess I'd have to go with good ol' squat hops and tricep dips.
  • Proudest moment: In the context of FIT4MOM, final Body Back assessments...loved seeing my progress and extra proud of beating my old mile run record despite the cold blustery wind in the face.
  • Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I helped run the radio station in college and was a broadcaster a few days a week...."you're listening to 88.7...The Edge".
