Meet our April 2017 - Mom of the Month

We are so excited to introduce Asya Boshnakov as our March Mom of the Month! Asya has been a member of Our Village since August 2016. Asya has been a dedicated Stroller Barre mama since she began classes last summer with her sweet little man Blago and has since added some Stroller Strides classes to the mix as well. She just recently started her first session of Body Back and dove in head first. Asya is a different mom than when she joined us less than a year ago; she is healthier, stronger, and happier. Her dedication to her health, fitness, and family is always evident. We are so proud of her and love having Asya in all of our classes. We're so happy to have you in Our Village, Asya! Congratulations!

  • Hometown: I was born in Bulgaria which is a small country in Eastern Europe located right above Turkey and Greece.
  • Tell us about who is in your family: Georgi is my husband, he is also Bulgarian (and we met here :) Yana is our daughter she is 8 years old and is a very smart, spunky full of life sweetheart. Her little brother is Blago and he is almost 14 mo. and he is only waiting for someone to start laughing to laugh out loud :)
  • Current/Previous career: Currently I am hopping to go back to work as a medical coder. That wasn't my dream growing up, I wanted to be a singer. The only thing that stood on my way was the fact that I am a broken note. When I am singing-unless you recognize the lyrics there is no other way to guess the song, and even then I can throw you off.
  • What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood is a very special and also life altering phase. It's a lot like graduation but not from school, graduation from life as we know it, from wild parties, from careless lives. It is a crazy life of sleep deprivation, balancing responsibilities, insanity, lots of noise, tantrums, sweet snuggles, toothless smiles, big eyes full of love. It is a crazy but very rewarding journey in which first I was lost to finally now I become a better version of myself.
  • Furthest you have been from home: I have loved traveling since a child and I can say that I have been to most European countries, we frequently travel in the U.S. trying to discover new hidden places. But the furthest I have been from home geographically speaking has to be Hawaii. We spent 10 days in Maui traveling the island everyday, hiking, climbing and just enjoying the beaches. It is a magical place!!!
  • How did you find FIT4MOM? I found F4M by accident, I was at a Wheaton park and was checking out the upcoming events F4M was having a class there. I was 6 months postpartum, overweight and severely out of shape. Lesley started messaging me with all the info about the program, decided to try one class. My first class was Stroller Barre with Ashley, by the end of class all I was trying really hard not to throw up, my instructor was sitting by me making sure that I am ok. Imagine Ashley's face when I told her that I want to sign up- it was a priceless moment lol.
  • How has FIT4MOM changed your life? After joining F4M I started gaining my sanity so I religiously attended 2 Stroller Barre classes, when I was ready I started going to Stroller Strides as well. Later on joined the Running club, and now I am in Body Back. I have met amazing, very inspirational moms along the way. Blago is also starting to make friends at playgroups which is nice, he is usually only into Ashley :) In my time at F4M I have gained my sanity and lost over 20lb in a period of 7 months. Cannot wait for what the future holds!
  • Favorite exercise? My favorite exercise is from Stroller Barre as I call it sweet torture- you put the ball behind you knee and holding it with your tight and calf you do pulses, abdications and all kind of crazy long movements :)
  • Proudest moment: My proudest moment (aside from holding both my kids for first time) should be the second time I was giving birth- as I was begging for drugs my water broke and end up having unplanned painkillers free delivery. Afterwards I felt very very proud of myself for not giving up !
  • Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I used to be a history teacher back in Bulgaria and now I occasionally sub in a Little Bulgarian School in Elk Grove Village :)
